Hunting Deer and Recovery

Every year how many deer are not recovered due to not just not poor shot placement, but maybe a hunter kind of rushing things in not taking into consideration several things that I think will help them make a better recovery. On animals maybe that are not shot in the perfect spot.

In this article, I will help you make the right decisions and help to recover more the animals.

The first thing you want to do is always slow down, pay attention to what’s going on. Pay attention how the animal reacts after the shot is made, see where deer runs off. Many times deer crash after they run out of sight. If you don’t see him crash, make sure and do not take your eyes off the spot where you last saw them. Take a mental impression of exactly that is. Is it by trees by bushes it on a certain Trail. Pay attention to exactly where you saw the animal last. Don’t forget where that spot is. A lot of times you’re shooting video we may have to go back and play that to you over and over again and determine exactly where it is. And it’s amazing how many times you can go to that spot and find blood and that exact same spot.
If you’re not sure of the exact shot placement. What I always tell people, wait it out when in doubt wait it out do not get in a hurry. Note the direction a deer runs after being shot, and use landmarks as a guide.
If you’re an Archer examine your arrow for an indication of the shot placement. Hair and blood color can be the indication where your arrow hit.

It’s also a good idea to study the deer’s anatomy and see the different hair colors on the deer. For example, on the deer’s belly, a white hair is going to be, up on the side there more gray.

So if you see a lot of white hair on the ground where you shoot I am sure that you hit that animal low.

And here’s a little tip for you what I like to do is take toilet paper or some type of marking tape and Mark every single blood spot you find. That gives you an indication where then animals were gone and help you be able to predict where that animal is heading.

If there’s water in your ears around and make sure and check those out because for whatever reason deer love to go in the water and expire there.
